Jock White Memorial Field Days 2019
On the 23rd and 24th of February a small team headed up to View Hill Domain to participate in the years Field Day. The weather forecast was not great for the weekend, but the enthusiasm was.
The plan for the 80m antenna was to shoot a line over a large gum tree using ZL3DMC’s home brewed pneumatic antenna launcher. This was a grat success and we installed the 40m ante
nna on ZL2GD’s portable 12m mast, approx. 10metres away from the 80m antenna. Tents were erected and we stood back to admire our stations.
Just as the competition started the rains arrived, whilst great for the very dry district is was not the best weather for a radio competition and BBQ. We had a couple of visitors the braved the conditions, I might add that the weather in Christchurch was much better than in the Canterbury foothills!
A bit of a struggle on 40m as the MUF was around 5MHz, but the 80m station made a good showing. All through the competition the 3 Canterbury stations were very close and the results when published will be very interesting.
Thanks to all the operators that participated:
ZL3QR, ZL2GD, ZL3AL, ZL3DMC and our visitors ZL4WX, ZL3AKZ, ZL3AGS, ZL3AHY, ZL3OV.
